Welcome
Mark your calendar for our 22nd season July 11 - August 3, 2008. Join us for orchestra, chamber music and special concerts featuring more than 250 musicians under the leadership of Artistic Director Gregory Hustis plus performances by young artists in conjunction with Conservatory Music in the Mountains led by Arkady Fomin. Welcome new Music Director and Conductor Guillermo Figueroa in his inaugural season with the Festival. Concerts are held in multiple venues, including Durango Mountain Resort; Fort Lewis College; Indian Shadow; BootJack Ranch in Pagosa Springs and community parks against the backdrop of the spectacular San Juan Mountains.
About the Festival
Beginning in 1987 with 11 musicians, Music in the Mountains has grown
to a three-week festival featuring musicians from around the world
and offering orchestral, chamber, conservatory, and Pops concerts. Free performances
for children and their families are featured during the Festival.
Mission Statement:
To produce an exceptional summer music festival with musicians of the highest caliber; entertain, educate and delight audiences with the richness of classical music, and complement concerts with educational programs.

| "Follow the Music" is an authentic original weaving by Burnham-style
Navajo rug maker Helen Begay. Like her Begay sisters, Helen has created a new weaving aesthetic that uses natural hand-spun churro sheep wool and
natural dyes made from local plants, minerals, tea, walnuts and even
potpourri to create rich earth tones. Her woven narrative painting, which
depticts the legendary Kokopelli leading a troupe of musicians across a Southwest frontier, will be auctioned at Pops Night in Durango July 26. Photo by Christopher Marona
