Conservatory Music in the Mountains

During Festival season, talented young performers have an opportunity to attend Conservatory Music in the Mountains. This program is offered in conjunction with the New Conservatory of Music in Dallas, Texas and enables students to work with musicians of international rank and perform with young artists from around the world.

International and distinguished faculty include:

Violinist, professor at Manhattan School of Music, Grigory Kalinovsky
Violinist, professor at Michigan State University, Dmitri Berlinsky
Violinist, bronze medal winner 2006 International Violin Competition of Indianopolis, Celeste Golden
Internationally recognized concert violinist of his generation, Vadim Gluzman
Cellist, Dallas Symphony Orchestra Principal Cello, Christopher Adkins
Concert Pianist, professor at Seoul National University, Aviram Reichert
Clavier Trio--violinist Arkady Fomin, cellist Jesus Castro-Balbi, pianist David Korevaar

These programs are held at Fort Lewis College during the Festival:

  • Conservatory String Program -  includes master classes, lessons, orchestra rehearsals, solo performances, fiddle music, music theory, ensemble, accompaniment and chamber music
  • Conservatory Piano Institute - David Korevaar, Director - includes work intensively on solo repertoire, private lessons, master classes, coaching in piano and string ensembles
  • Kids With Strings Attached - Linda Clark, Director - introduces violin and cello to beginners through instruction, basic music theory, beginning performance and opportunity to attend concerts

NOTE: "Kids with Strings Attached," reaches out to beginning string players. About one-third of the Four Corners students who attend are funded, based on need, in full or in part by Music in the Mountains Goes to School program.
