Durango Percussion Academy ~ July 5 - 9, 2010 at Fort Lewis College   (Ages 13 to 18 years)

Music in the Mountains Goes to School program and Fort Lewis College Music Department join forces for a week of masterclasses, percussion ensembles, private lessons, performance opportunities and fun evening activities on the beautiful Fort Lewis College Campus.

 ACADEMY FACULTY

 Jonathan Latta is currently the Assistant Professor of Music at Fort Lewis College teaching applied percussion, percussion ensemble, non-western music and orchestration. Earned Bachelor’s of Music in Performance and Music Education from the University of the Pacific Conservatory of Music and a Master’s of Music in Performance from East Carolina University. In May 2009 Jonathan finished his Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from the University of Arizona School of Music.

 

Gary Cook is well known as author of Teaching Percussion, currently in its third edition with DVDs and used world-wide. Cook was Timpanist and Principal Percussionist with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra for over two decades and held similar posts with the Arizona Opera and other orchestras. He founded the percussion department in 1975 at the University of Arizona in Tucson where he was Professor of Music and Director of Percussion Studies for thirty-three years.

 

 HOUSING AND MEALS:

Resident advisors are Fort Lewis College music education students. The advisor to student ratio will be no more than 1:10.  Fort Lewis College offers private rooms for students and resident advisors and local music educators in the Animas Hall. Meals will be served in the campus dining room.  Resident tuition is $520 and includes meals.  Commuter tuition is $300 with a meal plan available.
